Mary Flaherty is a Registered Nurse and experienced health care leader with more than 30 years of experience in hospitals and ambulatory centers in the Vancouver area and Montreal. She has worked most recently at BC Cancer and in renal, surgical and cardiac services in the Lower Mainland.
Mary’s passion as a health care leader has been to redesign and improve the health care system so that patients and families have a positive experience. As a nurse Mary understands that everyone’s experience is unique and that interactions with health care professionals can be stressful. She strives to translate the hospital-speak and demystify the health care world.
Mary has had her own personal experience with serious illness with her parents and other family members and friends. She understands the emotional impact and the challenges of managing care including multiple medical appointments and treatments, and organizing community support at home while navigating a complex system.
Mary has advanced education in nursing and leadership and training and provides education on living with a chronic illness, including advanced care planning for patients and caregivers. With an extensive knowledge of the health care system Mary is available to assist others as they navigate their way through the health care maze. Mary lives in Vancouver and is available to work with clients in the hospital and community.
